For “Disrespect”, Worker Burned Amazon Warehouse

An Amazon worker, Idris Ali sparked the £8million blaze at Amazon’s warehouse in Rugeley, Staffordshire, because he felt ‘disrespected’ by his team leader after asking for time off. He wanted a break from work due to relationship problems but when it was rejected he set fire to paper in the warehouse with a cigarette lighter and then walked off. The building was evacuated and no one was hurt. Ali was today jailed for four years at Stafford Crown Court. The court heard the fire had damaged 613,549 units at the site, resulting in a loss of £7.3million in stock. The repair, clean-up and labour costs amounted to a further £745,000.
